Do this before Drop-off: Check every item in good light for stains, holes, odors, and anything not in sellable condition, and pull anything questionable. Each unaccepted item found at the sale is a $1 deduction from your check, so a few minutes under bright lighting protects your earnings.

  • Check under good light: Look for stains on armpits, collar, cuffs, and front. If in doubt, leave it out.
  • Zip every zipper, button every button: Broken closures mean a pulled item.
  • Test all batteries and electronics: Non-working items are pulled.
  • Holiday-appropriate items only: We accept clothing from all seasons year-round — but please no winter holiday clothing (Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas) at the January sale. When in doubt, leave it out.

Winter Children's Gear at BoutiqueBASH: A Special Exemption

Heavy winter coats, snowsuits, ski bibs, and snow pants are built to keep kids warm and safe through rough winter play. Because that function matters more than a tiny mark, we make these an exception to our usual stain-and-wear policy — when the brand is on our Boutique Brands Chart.

  • We'll allow: small stains or very light wear that doesn't affect how the gear performs — slight wear at the hems or knees, or small marks.
  • We won't accept: anything that hurts warmth or waterproofing — broken snaps, zippers, or Velcro, holes, or other damage. We may also pass on items that still look excessively dirty after laundering.
  • Required either way: every piece must be stain-treated and freshly laundered, or it won't be accepted.

Only the team at Gail's Table (our Crew Check-in) can approve these — bring just the slightly-stained or worn pieces there during Drop-off to be checked and stamped. No need to stamp clean gear. Thanks for your patience as we make room for this exception while keeping our quality standards high!

Join our quality team!

Help us maintain the excellence our shoppers expect! Sign up for a stain checking shift to earn KE Bucks (NOT CREW HOURS) after drop-offs start but before BoutiqueBASH shopping begins. If you are unsure about our Quality Initiative, please sign up for a shift and see the heart our team puts into making the sale the best we can!

Slots are available in 1-hour increments during these times:

  • Thursday, August 6, 1pm-7pm
  • Friday, August 7, 11am-1pm

*Note: You cannot quality check during Crew shifts. Do not take a quality shift if you are scheduled for a Crew shift at that time!

Why are we doing this?

We want to be a place you trust to sell your items and shoppers trust to buy them! With over 1,000 consignors, even one flawed item per person means over 1,000 unbuyable items crowding the racks. Our goal is to clear out unaccepted items so your high-quality items shine and sell for what they are worth!

The care we take

We know seeing deductions on your seller report is frustrating. Please know our team puts incredible care into this process. Three to four pairs of eyes verify every single pulled item.

If a flaw looks like floor dust or a quick fix, we try to save it! If we believe that a stain will easily wash out, the item stays on the rack to sell.

Pro-tip & NWT items

Even New With Tags (NWT) items are checked carefully, as they often come with store damage or inner staining. At Drop-off, bring your NWT items to the Crew Check-in table to be stamped approved so you feel confident putting them out!

What to expect on your seller report

Any unaccepted item (stains, holes, tears, off-season) will result in $1 deducted from your check, as we pay that $1 to the shopper who found it.

What happens to these items?

Unacceptable items are held until the end of Pickup for you to retrieve. If you do not pick them up, they are donated to local charities like the World Help Foundation and the Carolina Care Center's Care Pantry.

Stain Checking Checklist

Earn KE Bucks while you shop

Find an obvious stain on clothing that clearly came in that way? Bring it to GAIL'S TABLE before checkout, and we will give you $1 in KE Bucks PER ITEM to deduct from your total.

(Note: We only pay for stains present at Drop-off, not fitting room makeup/deodorant or floor dust.)

How to redeem:

Turn in your KE Bucks to the Cashier at checkout to have the amount deducted from your total.

Thank you to the consignors who make our events the best! By working together to keep our standards high, we create an amazing shopping experience!
